Laser Hair removal

Imagine not having to worry about the tedious and time-consuming task of waxing and shaving.

The conquest for hair-freedom can be tiresome, it not only occupies too much of our daily routine but can also affect our confidence and self-esteem. Laser hair removal is an effective long-term solution to reduce body and facial hair that can also help with excess hormonal hair growth from PCOS and the menopause.

Laser hair removal works by using a laser light, which generates heat to damage or destroy the hair follicles. The process is painless and very effective, and takes less than an hour per visit. Frequently asked questions

How does it work?

The laser light energy coverts to heat and passes through the outer layers of skin and is selectively absorbed by the hairs dark pigment in the hair follicle. This cuts the supply of blood going to the hair follicle and destroys the root without damaging the surrounding cells, inhibiting growth.

Our Bio-care one Lasers are high-powered, dual wavelength systems that deliver high energy for faster results. Your aesthetician will perform a patch test prior to treatment to calibrate the Laser to the most suitable settings for your skin type.

It is important to note that lasers are effective in removing hairs, which are in the growing (Anagen) phase. Follicles in the second phase (Categen), and third phase (Telagen), will not be affected since the dermal papilla, or root, of the follicle is not yet attached to the follicle itself. Due to the hair growth cycle, additional treatments will be required once the dormant hairs reach the Anagen phase.

What can I expect during treatment?

We request that you shave the area being treated the day before your appointment.

You will be provided with eye protection to wear during the Laser treatment and the aesthetician will mark out the area to be treated in a grid pattern to ensure every millimetre is covered. The Laser hand piece is then worked over the entire area.

Laser hair removal is predominantly painless, the feeling can be compared to an elastic band snapping against the skin.

A powerful cooler works alongside the laser, taking the majority of the heat out of the skin. Aloe vera gel is applied post treatment.
In between Laser Hair Removal treatments you are free to shave the area as you wish.

Are there any side effects?

Immediately after treatment there may be some mild redness and swelling around the hair follicles, this will generally last less than a few hours. For 24 hours post-treatment you should avoid heat treatments, saunas and direct sun exposure. We apply sun block to exposed treated areas and you should continue to do so for at least a week after your treatment.

Allow around 10-20 days for the hairs to ‘shed’ or fall out following your treatments, you can help it along by gentle exfoliation if you wish.

How many treatments would I need?

The number of treatments required will vary depending on various factors, such as; the thickness of the hair; the area being treated; the individual; and your hair growth cycle. Most clients usually require a minimum course of 6-8 treatments. To ensure that as many hairs as possible are treated in the growth phase, there tends to be a 4/6-week interval between each treatment. Top-up sessions are often required periodically.

What results can I expect to see?

Many clients see a slight ‘shedding’ of hair after their first session but we advise that you will start to see a real, noticeable reduction after your third treatment. Some hairs are naturally thicker and have deeper roots which meaning they can be a little more stubborn to treat, meaning that they may take a little longer to get noticeable results.
